William Scroggins

Will got his start in woodworking twenty-five years ago building condominiums in Myrtle Beach S.C.
Will continued construction for ten years working with Quattlebaum Const. Quattlebaum is a very old southern family with roots and land in the Carolinas . Learning all that he could, Will went out on his own in Winston-Salem N.C. Remodeling homes for RJ Reynolds executives and white-collar employees for Life Savers, Del Monte, and Planters peanuts executives. All of who were based in Winston-Salem N.C.

Will then moved west to California , where he found employment at Cinnabar California, A set design and special effects house. Cinnabar (http://www.cinnabarcalifornia.com ) is the oldest independent set shop in Hollywood . Will learned the craft working with some of the oldest and best in their field.

With a construction background and The never ending creativity that flows thru Burbank and all the studios in Hollywood, Will is now doing the designing and fabrication at his store in Cambria , Ca. Using some of the most beautiful woods available and matching them up with pieces of wood that look like they belong together. Will is not pumping out widgets or key chains for tourists to purchase. He is creating unique pieces of utilitarian works of art that make you stop and think about common sense ideas and designs. In addition, I might add that common sense is not that common.

It has been three years now since I opened the store (Moonstone Redwood) the store has come along way. The first two years operating the store, I had road construction right in front of the store. My son Joshua who lives in Virginia, had a brain tumor that had to be removed. I could not afford to go to virginia and I could not afford to not go. The operation was a success and I returned to Cambria to push on and make the store support itself. The last thing I needed to hear was that my hero (my Dad) Ray Sigler was at the end of his journey. I flew home to Ohio to see my father for one last time. At the hospital, my four sisters and their families were there with Dad as he lay in bed in a drug induced coma. His last word as he sat up in his bed and looked at me and said "Billy". The only regret I have in this life is I regret that my Dad was unable to see my store and what I had created from nothing. I so wanted my father to see it and tell me that he was proud of me. Well I feel that the store is a success even after the hurdles that were in front of me. Be careful what you wish for because you will get it. William Scroggins
