This is a piece of rippled redwood bark (inside of the bark against the tree)

This is the sapwood of a coastal redwood. Rippled redwood is not a type of tree. It is something that happens during the life of a coastal redwood. I think it is caused by stress in the tree's life, such as drought or fire.
